The committee is hoping that Mr. Topurov will accept an offer of US$1,400 per month and help develop the team’s strength, in particular top weigh-lifter Hoang Anh Tuan.
Topurov, who was the World and European weight-lifting champion in 1987 and won a silver medal at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, is currently working as an assistant to the Bulgarian team’s coach.
He also made headlines around the world in 1983 when he set a Guinness world record for lifting more than three times his own weight.
