Unemployment insurance enrollments rebound

Nguyen Dai Dong, head of the Department of Employment, said at a seminar Friday hosted by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs that by this May Vietnam had nearly 147,000 people registering for unemployment insurance allowance, up over 131 percent year-on-year.

He said the number of people registering for unemployment benefits has risen not only because businesses were facing difficulties but also workers’ were more aware of unemployment benefits.

According to Vietnam's Social Insurance Agency, after three years since unemployment insurance was implemented, the country has nearly 7.5 million enrollees.

The enrollment number this year has tripled over last year with the total allowance at VND340 billion (US$16 million), said Dong.
