Two transport projects lag behind schedule

The Ministry of Transport said that expressway projects of Ben Luc- Long Thanh and Da Nang- Quang Ngai were lagged progress of the construction behind schedule as Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC)-the investor of the large-scale projects has not drastically executed the work.
Particularly, three parts of the Ben Luc- Long Thanh expressway project have run behind schedule, including major parts of Binh Khanh and Phuoc Khanh Bridge due to the design rechecking.

In the Da Nang-Quang Ngai expressway constrution project, Da Nang- Tam Ky stretch is currently being put into operation and toll collection has started whereas expansion of Tam Ky- Quang Ngai stretch using the World Bank loans has not completed at five intersections of Tuy Loan, Ha Lam, Tam Ky, Dung Quat and Bac Quang Ngai.

Besides, the project has faced difficulties in compensation and site clearance.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the two projects face low construction progress due to ununited management by the investor.

Additionally, VEC has not fully implemented the instructions of the Ministry of Transport since the project was moved to the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises.

If the problems are not dramatically solved, the projects will face a risk of huge damage due to compensation, stopping construction, lack of payment capital to the contractor after period of invalidity loan agreement, not putting into exploitation and toll collection as plan.

As this reason, the Ministry of Transport suggested the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprise to collaborate with VEC in solving difficulties, pushing up the projects and limiting damage due to the low construction progress.
The two large- scale transport projects have an investment capital of around US$ 2 billion.
