Two people were killed and 26 injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a passenger bus on the National Highway 1A in Tan Hai Commune in Ninh Hai District in the central province of Ninh Thuan on April 5.
Pham Ngoc Thach, the driver of the passenger bus with 40 people on board, changed lanes suddenly and collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction, from the central province of Phu Yen.
Both the vehicles were badly damaged and the two driver assistants, 22-year-old Nguyen Van Thai and 40-year-old Nguyen Tan Quang, were killed on the spot.
The injured were rushed to hospital for emergency treatment. Three of the 26 that were injured are in critical condition and underwent surgeries in the general hospital in Ninh Thuan Province. Others received first aid and were released from the hospital.
The provincial authorities have given VND2 million(US$96) to each of the families of the dead victims, VND1million to the seriously injured and VND500,000 to those suffering from minor wounds.
Police said they will conduct a probe into the cause of the accident.
