Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang yesterday urged relevant agencies to complete a feasibility report of Long Thanh International Airport project by June 2017 and submit it to the National Assembly by October the same year.
The decision to build the airport was passed by the National Assembly on June 25.
The Transport Ministry has proposed the Prime Minister to assign the Aviation Corporation of Vietnam to be the investor of the airport and permit the corporation to use capital source from its equitization for making out a feasibility report for the first phase of the project.
The proposal is waiting for opinions from the Ministry of Construction, Finance, and Planning and Investment.
If the PM permits, the ministry will organize bid invitation to choose consultant companies within eight months for the feasibility report establishment, which is expected to take eighteen months.
Assessment of the report will be carried out by foreign consultant companies to ensure the objectivity.
It is expected that the Long Thanh International Airport will break ground in 2018.
Previously, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Fukada Hiroshi told Minister Dinh La Thang that Japan paid much attention in the Long Thanh Airport and would consider providing the project with official development assistance.
The Japanese side hoped that Vietnam would facilitate their businesses’ attendance in the project and allow the Japan International Corporation Agency to study the feasibility of the airport, he said.
