Surveillance camera installed to curb bribery, corruption in customs activities

Following newspaper articles on bribery and corruption in customs department in Dinh Vu port in the northern port city of Hai Phong, surveillance cameras were installed to supervise the port activities.

Newspaper articles reported that some customs officials at the Dinh Vu port requesting businesses to pay extra fees under the table, leaders of the customs department decided to install surveillance cameras from June to deter officials from receiving extra money.
Camera image taken from camera were placed in leaders’ rooms and sections where customers procedures take place. Camera data are sent directly to the General Customs Department.
Additionally, people and enterprises can inform the sector’s leaders through hot line if they detect corruption.
