* Viet Nam makes its name in Karate – Open De Paris 2008

Vietnamese female karateist Nguyen Hoang Ngan had a good performance in her last battle and triumphed over her Venezuelan opponent, Scarlett Riera to receive the highest honor in her Women’s Kata.
Moreover, her male teammate also pocketed one bronze medal in the Men’s 65kg.
The Karate – Open De Paris 2008 which was held in Paris attracted 500 karateists from 40 countries and territories.
* Ha Noi to Host 32nd Southeast Asian Shooting Championship (SEASA)
This is the third time Viet Nam has been approved to host the biggest shooting event of Southeast Asia.
The host plans on spending VND1 billion on accommodating and organizing the event.
Viet Nam Federation of Shooting currently is looking for some sponsors to be responsible for the huge expenditure, a representative of VFS stated, however, that it is not easy to find big sponsors for this event.
The host has already scheduled their 50 marksmen and markswomen who are currently training locally before going into the nation’s training in the National Sports Training Center 1 in early March.
The country will welcome the athletes of 11 Asian countries in September to compete in their multi-categories in the National Sports Training Center 1.
* Nation Awaits Institute of Chess
According to the World Chess Federation’s (WCF) Secretary General Ignatius Leong, the WCF has promised to help develop an international-standard Institute of Chess in Viet Nam.
In return, the leaders of the Southeastern province Ba Ria-Vung Tau promised to contribute a landing fun of 5,000 square meters to this positive project.
Mr Leong also promised to co-operate with the Viet Nam Chess Federation in seeking some financial sponsors, including domestic and international entrepreneurs, for this project in time to come.
Many chess experts predict a brighter future for Viet Nam since many Vietnamese chess players gained a lot of victories in the international chess championships, namely Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, Le Quang Liem, Hoang Thi Bao Tram.
In achievement, Viet Nam stays safely in the top three of the Asian category of the World Chess Ranking.
