Tens of thousands of domestic and international visitors flocked to the central city of Da Nang on April 29 to watch fireworks displays by competing teams from Italy, Russia, and host Da Nang at the International Fireworks Competition 2013.

Despite the rain, tens of thousands of people streamed into the central arena to watch the event, which was held along the banks of the Han River. The grand stands were full to capacity with 25,000 seats, and people waited with bated breath to watch the spectacular show.
After the welcome address by Da Nang City leaders, the show opened with the first fireworks performance by the Russian team which was greeted with much applause and shouts. Although this is the first time the Russian team has participated in the event, their performance was well received.
Next was Vietnam’s performance which showcased the country's beautiful sceneries and gentle hospitality of the Vietnamese people.
The US and Japanese teams will perform on April 30.
According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Da Nang City, around 500,000 visitors watched the spectacular event. On the downside, there was a huge shortage of hotel rooms and other accommodation, and restaurants were accused of overcharging and poor service.
Although authorities had taken steps for people not to hike prices of such essential services, to maintain a good image for the City in the eyes of international tourists, such violations did take place.
