Deputy Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ngoc To Commune, My Xuyen district of Soc Trang province Vo Van Choi said: “Serious drought, high salinity have caused the death of shrimps in the Mekong Delta. Because of the influence of the bad weather situation, the farmers are facing to many difficulties in production. Coping with bad condition, experts encouraged shrimp breeders should breed shrimps in the coming rainy season”.
 
According to the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Kien Giang province, approximately 8,000 hectares of shrimp crops have been destroyed by white bass and diseases. The department also suggested local farmers should move shrimp breeds to some places to avoid the high salinity which covered over 25 percent of area in An Minh and An Bien district.
