SGGP newspaper brings relief to Nghe An flood victims

Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper coordinated with Nghe An Province's Red Cross to hand over VND100 million (US$5,000) in cash to flood victims in the central province of Nghe An on Saturday.

The working group came to Hung Nguyen, Nam Dan and Nghe Loc, three hardest-hit districts by flood.

The districts have been submerged by floodwaters. Many hamlets have been isolated with many households facing hunger.

SGGP staff witnessed two blind men living in flooded homes in Huong Nguyen District.

Ho Xuan An, a blind man, has to make procedure to send his son to SOS village because his wife was died and he is not able to feed the child.

On October 22 and 23, a delegation of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, led by Chairman Huynh Dam, visited the flood-hit provinces of Nghe An and Ha Tinh.

Until October 23, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee received more than VND13 billion ($650,000) from donors nationwide and all the money has been allocated to flood-hit regions.

In addition, A VFF report said that the Fatherland Front Committee in 24 provinces and cities so far handed over more than VND22 billion ($1,100 million) to flood-affected residents in central provinces.

Vietnam Red Cross has received more than VND10 billion ($500,000) from individuals and organizations nationwide.
