Rural poor benefit from volunteer campaign

The “Green Summer Campaign 2011”, organized by the Vietnam Youth Association and the Sai Gon Giai Phong campaign of “Young Doctors’ follow Uncle Ho’s teachings” are jointly working at benefiting thousands of rural people across the country.

The two campaigns have had phenomenal success whereby more than 68,000 residents in 63 rural areas of the country have received free health check-ups and medicines worth VND2.5 billion (US$119,047) so far.

3,560 young medics are volunteer participants in this great philanthropic campaign. Thousands of needy, disadvantaged and sick are benefitting from this movement across the country.

Campaign participants have given re-productive health consultation to 300,000 young people in localities and encouraged more than 51,500 people to donate blood to blood banks for emergency situations.

Volunteer doctors also examined and gave free medicines to 1,500 residents of wards Binh Hoa Nam and Binh Hoa Bac in district Duc Hue in the Mekong delta province of Long An yesterday.

400 young volunteers repaired the 3,000 meter road in Binh Hoa Bac ward and presented three charity houses worth VND20, 000,000 each to disadvantaged members of the communist party and beneficiaries of social policies. Children from poor families were given 4,000 notebooks and 10 second hand computers.

On the same day, volunteers also organized games for children in HCMC’s suburban Binh Chanh district, free haircuts and necessary medicines.
