The Vietnamese border army in the central province of Khanh Hoa on Monday handed over a Philipino fisherman to the Philippine Embassy in Vietnam, rescued by a Vietnamese fisherman two months ago.
On February 21, fisherman Nguyen Duy Thanh from the central province of Quang Ngai found Richard Bacunawa adrift southeast of Song Tu Tay Island of Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands in Khanh Hoa Province.
Richard Bacunawa, the Philipino man, told reporters that while fishing alone in Philippine waters on February 18, strong winds and high waves overturned and sank his boat. He survived by clinging on to two plastic cans and kept afloat at sea for a couple of days before being rescued by Thanh’s boat.
All this while he was being taken care of by the provincial border army force.
