The project will be carried out in three communes Binh Hoa, Binh Chuong and Binh My in Binh Son district. It is planned to build three swimming pools and provide training courses to teachers who will teach swimming for 1,200 kids in the communes.
The project will raise inhabitants’ awareness of drowning accidents through the media.
Speaking at the seminar, head of Quang Ngai Red Cross Society Nguyen Hoang Hiep said that statistically, drowning accidents killed 31 kids and 30 kids in 2017 and 2018. Worse, the rate of children having little to no swimming ability is high; accordingly, the project is a good one which should be expanded.
It is expected that the project will benefit 3,000 kids directly and 6,000 kids indirectly by October, 2019. Total cost of the project is nearly VND5 billion (US$215,500).
