Scattered rainfall across most central provinces from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai on Thursday afternoon helped ease parched conditions in the region after prolonged hot and dry conditions.
However, the mountainous region from Quang Nam to Quang Tri Provinces saw heavy rainfall, providing much need irrigation to the summer-autumn rice crop.
The rain also increased water levels in rivers, reduced salt penetration and allowed pumping stations to become operational again. Water levels in reservoirs also went up.
On the same day, the central highland city of Da Lat experienced a hail storm and mild cyclone in Ward 7 area which lasted an hour.
The cyclone collapsed a 1,000 square metre greenhouse of daisy plants and blew away another 1,500 square metre greenhouse. The latter got entangled in electric wires as it blew off, resulting in a complete power blackout.
