Quang Binh requires urgent evacuation of 2,000 households

Several landslides have occurred along 173 kilometers of riverbanks and coastal areas in 68 communes in the central province of Quang Binh, putting 2,000 households at risk and in urgent need for immediate evacuation from danger zones.

Several landslides have occurred along 173 kilometers of riverbanks and coastal areas in 68 communes in the central province of Quang Binh, putting 2,000 households at risk and in urgent need for immediate evacuation from danger zones.

According to the Department of Irrigation and Flood and Storm Prevention in the province, the 2,000 households are located in the midst of a landslide prone belt and should be immediately relocated elsewhere.

Beside these, another 1,650 households are also in dire need of assistance as their livelihood has been affected due to the landslides.

Quang Binh Province has five main river systems, which all are affected from landslides. The worst hit areas are Van Hoa, Phu Hoa, Phong Hoa, Thach Hoa Communes in Tuyen Hoa District and Quang Hai Commune in Quang Trach District.

Landslides have devoured a further 15-20 meters inland, taking up more from residential areas in the mainland.
