According to a press release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the trip will be made at the invitation of General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President Xi Jinping.
According to the National Development and Reform Commission of China, the country’s investment in projects related to the Belt and Road initiative has totalled US$60 billion since 2013. Most of China’s upcoming overseas investments will be put towards the initiative’s member nations.
Once completed, the Belt and Road Initiative is expected to create a large economic and trade network, covering a region with 4.4 billion people and a combined GDP of US$21 trillion.
