According to the Ministry, of 838 fertilizer plants nationwide, 265 of them manufacturing organic fertilizers accounting for 31.6 percent.
Around 2,500 organic fertilizer products are being circulated in the country by June, 2019 as said by head of the Plant Protection Department Hoang Trung.
In first six months of the year alone, 1.2 million tons of organic fertilizer was launched in the domestic market, 200,000 tons higher than total production in 2017. Organic fertilizer development not only meets agricultural production demand but also more importantly protects environment.
The government has had policies on microbial organic fertilizer development has been specified in the Law on Cultivation taking effect on February 1, 2020.
In response to the government’s appeal, many giant enterprises have produced organic agriculture, said Minister of Agriculture Nguyen Xuan Cuong.
Plants have been making best use of organic by-product in the cultivation to increase their output. It is big move proving a considerable change in awareness of Vietnamese farmers.
However, Minister Cuong said the output was still very modest (with 11.6 percent of organic fertilizer and 86.9 percent of inorganic fertilizer). In the future, Vietnam’s agriculture will not export raw material step by step; therefore, organic fertilizer and biological pesticide play important role in the country’s agriculture sector.
The S-shaped country has great potential in organic fertilizer production because it has large number of agricultural by-products.
To achieve the goal of three million tons of organic fertilizer for domestic demand and 0.5 million tons of organic fertilizer for export by next year, Vietnam should promote manufacturing and use of the fertilizer to ensure food security and improve agricultural produce quality and restore its eco-system with the orientation towards safe and sustainable agriculture.
The Ministry proposed production, using and consumption will be carried out under public-private partnership (PPP) to lift value of produce benefitting farmers.
