A fire blazed up and partly destroyed Nam Hai Van Forest in Lien Chieu District in the central city of Da Nang on June 30.
According to local residents, the fire started from the railway across the foot of the Hai Van Mountain Pass at 10 am. Dry and windy weather quickly spread it to the pine forest area in the top of the Mountain Pass.
Da Nang City had to mobilize seven fire trucks and nearly 300 fire fighters to the site. They were able to distinguish the blaze by mid-noon of the same day.
Phan The Dung, head of the Forest Management Division in Lien Chieu District, said that their forest rangers are still keeping watch of the area to prevent the fire from breaking out again. Authorized organs are investigating the cause of the fire.
Forest fires often burn down vast swaths of Nam Hai Van Forest during dry seasons almost annually.
