The opening ceremony was hosted in Go Cong district, Tien Giang with the attendance of Minister Dinh La Thang, HCMC People’s Committee Deputy Chairman Tat Thanh Cang and other officials.

My Loi Bridge has been built under BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) since January 2014. Toll collection time is about 28 years and four months and expected to begin in November.

The four lane concrete bridge spans Vam Co River to connect Can Duoc district in Long An and Go Cong district in Tien Giang. Vehicles from HCMC to the Mekong Delta in Highway 50 no longer cross the river by ferries any more.

88.9 kilometer Highway 50 is the main route in the road network connecting HCMC with Long An, Tien Giang and other provinces in the Mekong Delta.

The highway has been upgraded to ease traffic pressure for the National Highway 1A.

Chairman of Tien Giang province People’s Committee Tran The Ngoc said that the bridge would play a significant role in socioeconomic development of Tien Giang and Long An.

Coastal farming areas in these provinces now begin to develop industry and service. Foreign and local investors have hired about 6,000 hectares of land for construction of shipbuilding yards, ports, warehouses, new urban areas and industrial clusters and sea tourism development.
