More funds for Monument for Heroic Mothers

Quang Nam's administration has decided to add a further VND330 billion to the construction of the Monument for Heroic Vietnamese Mothers in Tam Ky City of the central province.

The decision makes the total investment for the project VND411 billion.

The statue in the new monument will be modelled on the prototype of heroic Vietnamese mother Nguyen Thi Thu, a 106-year-old resident of Dien Thang Commune in Dien Ban District of Quang Nam province. She along with her nine children, one son-in-law and one grandchild sacrificed their lives for the country during the resistance war for national independence.

The statue is made of sandstone in a pyramid shape, 18-meters in width and 120-meters in height. The internal area will have a memorial hall to honor 50,000 heroic Vietnamese mothers.

Vietnam has recognized over 50,000 people as Heroic Vietnamese Mothers. Quang Nam Province is the home of more than 64,000 martyrs and 7,289 Heroic Vietnamese Mothers.
