Mobifone--one of the country’s three largest mobile network operators has been separated from the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT).

The separation is a part of a decision issued by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on VNPT restructuring project in the phase 2014-2015.
Mobifone, the Central Post Office and Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology are separated from the group to operate under the direct management of the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications.
Vinaphone--one of the three largest--still belongs to VNPT but its telecom service trading will be reorganized.
Companies and units, who are running the group’s telecom trading, will become VNPT-VinaPhone Company. Those trading software and value added service will be merged into VNPT-Media. Divisions undertaking telecom network infrastructure will gather into VNPT-Net Company.
The Ministry of Information and telecommunications must submit the Government a draft decree on organization and operation regulations of VNPT by the third quarter this year, PM Dung instructed.
He also ordered the ministry to present production and trading, investment and development plans in 2014-2015, a development strategy by 2020 with visions until 2030 by the same deadline.
