On June 16, boat QB-92109 with seven men on board lost contact with the mainland while seeking shelter from Storm Talim.

Le Thanh Quan, 20, said that when the boat was trying to flee from the storm, it was hit by high waves which caused engine failure.

The fishermen had to eat uncooked rice during their ordeal and were exhausted and in panic until rescued by Vessel SAR 274 of the Da Nang Maritime Search and Rescue Co-ordination Center.

While towing the boat ashore on Monday, the vessel received a signal from another boat QB-92657 with six fishermen on board about four sea miles from the vessel’s position.

The vessel thus was able to also tow the second boat, which too had suffered engine failure and was missing since June 17.
