Vietnamese team leader Le Trong Hung said the competition was held in Los Angeles from May 13 to 19 with 1,403 entries of 1,778 students from 78 nations and territories. Of 48 winning countries, Vietnam is one of three having third prize.
Of eight entries to the ISEF 2017, the Vietnamese team also bagged five awards including one third prize and four fourth -place prizes. Tran Dan Khue and Vu Thi Nam Anh from the Nature High School for the gifted students in Hanoi won the fourth prize with the project "Design, synthesis and testing anti-cancer effects of some hydroxamic acid derivatives 2-new frame histone deacetylase inhibitor oxoindolin direction” in the chemistry category.
Moreover, Vietnamese team was awarded for four special prizes presented by science and technology organizations and enterprises.
Pham Huy who faced a challenge getting his visa to enter the U.S., because he had been rejected twice bagged the third prize of the Robotics and Intelligent Machines category. In addition, the student was supported $400 for special prize given by the science and technology organizations
Winners were presented the Ministry and the Central Communist Union’s certificates of merit. Deputy Education Minister Nguyen Thi Nghia congratulated winners saying that students have glorified the country with their prizes.
