The “Central Coastal Region Development Forum” was held on June 3 by the Ministry of Planning and Investment, provincial People’s Committee and World Bank in Hoi An City of the central province of Quang Nam.

“The central coastal region of Vietnam possesses a special geo-economical position of strategic importance to the country.” Mr. Phuc said.

Though the regions suffer many natural disasters, it has potential and strengths for development, the government, ministries and local authorities support the region with policies focusing on sustainable development of the central coastal region, national defense and poverty elimination.

The World Bank Country Director Victoria Kwakwa highlighted the importance of regional collaboration in addressing the challenges. There are some limits in management of natural resources such as water, river basin, forest, and climate change meanwhile there exists a discrepancy in management of water natural resources and infrastructure construction.

The region needs to focus on infrastructure especially harbor, airport for tourism growth and coordination with other regions, she said.
