The planting, part of the "One million green trees fund" programme and "Making the world cleaner" campaign, was done jointly by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Lam Dong Province People's Committee.

The programme seeks to plant one million trees in urban areas across the country by 2015.

Earlier 87,000 trees were planted in many provinces and cities including Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, and HCM City.

The "One million green trees fund" is a brainchild of the Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Co. (Vinamilk), and began last year.

The campaign for a cleaner world, initiated in 1993 by Australia, is carried by the UN in more than 130 countries and territories to raise public awareness of environmental protection
