The decision of halting sand exploration was issued following the decision by the government on banning all exploitation-relating activities in the river this time.
The People’s Committee asked local administrations in localities which the river flow through to supervise and handle violations during this time.
Beforehand, Lam Dong authorities have seized mineral licenses in Dong Nai River because exploiters caused erosion. Inhabitants along the river in districts Da Teh and Cat Tien reported the national historical and cultural monument Cat Tien suffer severe erosion because of sand exploitation.
Additionally, erosion also occurred in Cat Tien National Park, part of the wet tropical forest complex and one of the specious natural forests remaining in Vietnam.
