The ground-breaking ceremony for a hydropower plant in the Sekong province of Laos was held on April 5 with the attendance of the Viet Nam-Laos Electricity Investment and Development Joint Stock Company and representatives of the two Governments.
An amount of USD273.8 million is funded for the construction project-the Sekaman 3 power plant, designed at 250 MW capacity.
When completed in 2009, the plant is expected to generate an annual output of one billion kWh, earning more than USD40 million per year, serving both export demand and local supply in the South of Laos.
The Laotian Deputy PM expressed thanks to Viet Nam’s Communist Party, Government and people for their supports of the construction project.
He also affirmed that the Sekaman 3 power plant marked and strengthened the solid cooperation between Viet Nam and Laos.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the fact that energy cooperation has been put on priority in the relationship between the two nations in recent years.
Attending the ceremony were Viet Nam’s Standing Deputy PM Nguyen Tan Dung and his Laotian peer Thongloun Sisolit.
