One man was killed and 12 others seriously injured after a homemade shrimp boiling tank exploded yesterday morning in Kien Luong District of the Mekong Delta Province of Kien Giang.

The explosion killed 18-year-old Truong Ngoc Tuyen and seriously injured seven laborers who were treated at the intensive care unit of the Province General Hospital. Five other bystanders were also hurt and taken to the district General Hospital.
The tank, used for boiling shrimps, exploded in a shrimp factory at Le Thi Ut in Xa Ngach Commune of Kien Luong District while workers were still working in the factory.
Le Hung Linh, vice chairman of the people’s committee of Kien Luong District said the factory did not meet the industrial safety requirements and employed workers without labor contracts. The tank that exploded was home-made and did not meet technical safety requirements and was unsafe for use.
Kien Luong district compensated families of the injured and dead with VND1 million and VND2million respectively.
