At a meeting with them January 12, the visiting leader said: “Vietnam is expected to be among the countries that will be greatly impacted by climate change. Can Gio is a coastal district and must pay more attention to coping with tsunami, rising water levels, and earthquakes.”

Besides roads, a water supply system must also be built to safeguard public health and meet the needs of social, economic, and tourism development, he said.

“Clean water use per capita is extremely low in Can Gio at just 2.6 cubic meters per month,” he said.

He ordered the Saigon Water Supply Corporation (Sawaco) to begin work on the Nha Be – Can Gio water supply project on January 26.

“It will take eight months to complete the project. So people can get clean water in August,” Sawaco reported.

The chairman also advised the local authorities to develop human resources.

To ease Can Gio’s teacher shortage, he ordered the city Department of Education and Training to provide it with qualified teachers soon.
