Earlier, Hai Phong city’s Minh Thuy also set a new record in the women’s 800m immersion (diving with an air tank) with a time of 7.10.81.

Thanh, who broke the second record in the 100m immersion with 33.42 seconds on September 27 at My Dinh Aquatic Sports Centre, grabbed a time of 15.8 seconds for a gold in the 50m apnea (an event requiring no mask or snorkel, just fins) – his fourth gold medal at the championship.

But it was Hanoian Duong Thi Huyen Trang, bagging a gold medal on September 30 in the women’s 100m surface, who took the capital team to the victory podium with seven gold, nine silver and two bronze medals.

Tay Ninh placed second after bagging five golds, three silvers and three bronzes – edging HCM City , who finished third with five golds, one silver and five bronze medals.

Hanoian Duong Thi Huyen Trang, who set a new national record in the women’s 200m surface with a time of 1:37.76 on September 28, and Thanh were voted best finswimmers at the championship.

Two years ago, Thanh won the only gold medal for Viet Nam in the Asia Finswimming Championships in Akita , Japan , helping Viet Nam to third place.
