At a press brief on October 3 in Hanoi, on the issuing of a draft for officials and party members to adopt a civilized and cultured lifestyle at wedding celebrations, the city's Communist Party Committee encouraged sending of wedding cards rather than invitations to wedding parties.

Nguyen Hoang Long, deputy head of the Department of Propaganda of the city's Party Committee, said the Hanoi Party has more than 34,000 members and ten thousand more are working in state organizations in the capital.
If each official and party member sets an example by conduct wedding parties within their families in the spirit of ‘thrift, social consciousness and wholesomeness’, the message will spread to all social classes and society will see a big change.
The draft has received support from the public.
As per the draft, the number of guests at a wedding must be less than 300, equivalent to 50 food trays. If both sides of the families hold the wedding party together, no more than 600 people can be invited.
Moreover, they cannot hold a series of many parties for many days, or organize feasts at 5-star hotels or luxury resorts.
