Hai Phong burn victims receive donations

Burn victims of last week’s fire tragedy in a shoe factory in the northern city of Hai Phong, received VND1 billion (US$47,000) in donations yesterday, made by 70 organizations and individuals who visited them in hospital.

The fire tragedy at the shoe factory claimed 13 lives on July 29 in the An Lao District of Hai Phong City.

Pham Huy Dam, deputy chairman of the People’s Committee in An Lao District, said the donations were made to help the burn patients.  Of the 25 injured people, 23 are being treated at the National Institute of Burns.

Chairman Huynh Dam offered sympathies and condolences to all victims’ families, on behalf of the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

The district administration has subsequently instructed communes to examine and force all establishments to make provisions for labor safety or else halt operations.
