The Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union and Vietnamese Student Association held a ceremony to kick off the 20th Green Summer Campaign in September 23 Park in the City on July 14.
The ceremony was attended by Nguyen Van Dua, Deputy Secretary of the HCMC Party Committee, and leaders of many departments in HCMC and other provinces.
The campaign will take place from July 14 to August 18 with the participation of more than 60,000 young people, youth groups, and students.
This year, the campaign takes place not only in 24 urban districts of HCMC but also 16 other provinces such as Kien Giang, Hau Giang, An Giang, Tra Vinh, Dong Thap, Ben Tre, Tay Ninh , Binh Phuoc, Dak Nong, Dak Lak, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Phu Yen, Vinh Long, Bac Lieu, Long An and in the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
During the campaign, volunteers will participate in social welfare works including organizing summer courses for children, teaching law, cultivation and breeding techniques.
The campaign has set a target of planting 500,000 tree saplings, introducing jobs for five thousand youth, donating six thousand notebooks tor disadvantaged students, and supplying free medicines to 1,200 people in Laos.
After the launch ceremony, volunteers participated in useful activities such as cleaning the river, garbage collection, sweeping pavements, planting trees and dropping fish in the rivers and canals.
