Floods death toll increases to 28

The flood weary southern central provinces in the last few day were buffeted by another deluge which has killed 28 people and left two others missing as of Wednesday.

Khanh Hoa Province alone had eight dead, one missing and six injured, total economic losses was estimated to reach VND410 billion (US$20.5 million). In the mountainous district of Khanh Son, 6,000 residents were still marooned.

In Binh Dinh Province, the traffic was blocked on some roads in Tuy Phuoc town. 

The same day, hydropower plants like Ba Ha, Song Hinh, and Krong Nang in Phu Yen Province continued releasing floodwaters for safety. The provincial People’s Committee had to displace 3,000 residents in districts of Song Cau, Phu Hoa, Dong Xuan and Tuy Hoa town.

Downpours also caused landslides in Nhan Mountain side, threatening 32 nearby households. The spot was 20m wide and 60m, several new cracks were found occur on the mountain.

Depressions forced Tuy An District People’s Committee to evacuate 13 households in An Dan and An Linh communes while another 55 in the later were still threatened.

In Quang Ngai Province, torrential rains triggered severe mountain landslides causing traffic standstill on many roads in Son Tay, Tay Tra, and Tra Bong districts.
