Over the last week, fishermen in the north-central region have continuously yielded a bumper haul of horse mackerel, with each boat pulling almost 5-8 quintals per trip.
One kilogram of horse mackerel fetches VND7,000-10,000 at the Thuan An fishing port in Thua Thien-Hue Province. After deducting overhead costs, one boat earns an average of VND1.5-2 million each on a single fishing trip.
In related news, the province has established 14 teams of fishermen who will from now donate a certain amount of money towards a common fund.
This fund will be used to help those fishermen who are affected by natural disasters or other accidents at sea. The fund will assist by paying for 50 per cent of expenses incurred.
