Torrential rains on the last three consecutive days have inundated 53,000 hectares of rice and shrimp farms in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu.
Over half of the area in low lying districts like Vinh Loi, Hoa Binh, Hong Dan, Phuoc Long might suffer complete loss.
As of Wednesday, 90 percent of rice fields in the province were waterlogged. All measures to cope with flooding did not work as the floodwaters rose quickly due to heavy rains combined with high tide, said the provincial leaders.
The provincial Hydro Meteorological Forecasting Center said that the rainfall was 150mm, the province's highest level since the beginning of the year.
