Distinguished Vietnamese receive title of ‘Hero of the People’s Armed Force’

President Truong Tan Sang has approved a list of 28 people to be awarded the title of ‘Hero of the People’s Armed Force’, for their extraordinary achievements during the war against US forces for the sake of National Salvation.

On the list are three lieutenant-generals, namely Nguyen Trung Thu, deputy chief of General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army; Phan Hoan, former commander of Military Zone No.5; and Tran Phi Ho, former commander of Military Zone No.9 cum deputy head of the Steering Committee for the South-western Region.

Major-general Le Xa Hoi, former deputy commander of Military Zone No.9, is also on the list.

In related news, to mark the 82nd anniversary of the Party’s Propaganda and Education ( on August 1, 1930),  more than 20 groups, representing local and national party committees, social and political organizations, as well as the press in Ho Chi Minh City visited and congratulated the City Education and Propaganda for the Party Committee.

Nguyen Tan Phong, editor-in-chief of Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper and member of the HCMC Party Committee, led the newspaper’s management board to visit and have a warm talk with Huynh Thanh Hai, deputy head of the City Education and Propaganda for the Party Committee cum member of the Party Committee.

At the meeting, editor-in-chief Phong expressed his appreciation for the help that SGGP has received from the City Education and Propaganda for the Party Committee. He also promised that the newspaper would do its best to fulfill any political task given in the near future.
