On May 6, the Vietnamese delegation had a defence policy dialogue with the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba.

Minister of Revolutionary Armed Forces Sen. Lt. Gen. Leopoldo Cintra Frias said Cuba pursues a consistent policy of attaching great importance to sound friendly relations with Vietnam.

Deputy Minister Vinh affirmed that Vietnam always wants to further enhance the faithful relations between the two countries’ armies in particular and the two Parties, States and peoples in general.

The two sides expressed their pleasure at the outcomes of the bilateral defence partnership over the past time and agreed to boost the bilateral cooperation in this field in a more effective manner so as to strengthen each country’s defence power for the protection of their respective sovereignty, territorial integrity, and revolutionary achievements.

They will tighten coordination in the fields that had been agreed in the bilateral defence cooperation plan.

The Cuban side hoped to boost cooperation with Vietnam in food security, defence industry, protection of the socialist ideological foundation on cyberspace, and neutralization of hostile forces’ sabotage attemps in the new situation.

The two sides agreed that in 2020, Vietnam and Cuba will organise practical activities to celebrate the 60th founding anniversary of bilateral defence partnership.

The two sides also took the occasion to compared notes on regional and international issues of mutual concerns.

On the occasion, the two ministries signed minutes on implementing a dossier on the 60-year history of Vietnam-Cuba 60-year defence partnership.

Under the document, they will work together to research, compile and publish a set of books on Vietnam-Cuba 60-year defence partnership (1960-2020) and make a documentary film about the bilateral defence relations.

The idea on the dossier was agreed by leaders of the two defence ministries during the visit to Cuba in March 2018 by a delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam led by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
