City to rename streets after islands in Spratly Archipelago

Ha Phuoc Thang, Deputy Chairman of the People’s Committee in District 3 in Ho Chi Minh City, on July 11 said that the district has decided to rename some streets after Islands in Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago.

He disclosed this at a meeting of the 10th session of the 8th People’s Council in HCMC.

Mr. Thang said they would be renaming Rach Bung Binh and Cong Ba Xep streets to Song Tu Tay (Southwest Cay) and Nam Yet (Namyit), which are names of two of the largest islands in the Truong Sa Archipelago.

Earlier, Mr. Thang as well as Mr. Tran Huu Tri, Chairman of the People’s Committee in District 6, unanimously agreed to rename streets after mountains, rivers and islands under the country’s sovereignty.

On the same day, delegates at the 10th session also completed a vote of confidence for 16 senior HCMC leaders, who are voted by the City People’s Council.

The leaders are chosen from the City People’s Council; People’s Committee; Departments of Planning and Investment, Finance, and Police; and from the City High Command.
