Can Tho City kicks off construction of Thot Not rice market

The Vietnam Southern Food Corporation on Friday broke ground for construction of the Thot Not wholesale rice trading market in Thot Not District in Can Tho City in the Mekong Delta.

Thot Not is the largest wholesale rice trading market in the Mekong Delta, covering an area of more than 21.5 hectares.

The market will be constructed at a cost of VND812 billion (US$39 million) and will comprise of warehouses, yard space for drying rice, trading areas for agro products, a banking service area and a rice exchange floor where farmers will be kept updated with information on the rice market like supplies, stocks and prices.

The Thot Not rice trading market will stock rice for famers in its warehouses. Farmers can also mortgage their rice against loans and the market facility will choose the right time for farmers to sell their rice, aimed to benefit them.

Thot Not rice trading market is expected to be complete by the fourth quarter of next year.
