The Central Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Communist Youth Union, the provincial authorities and the Le Huu Family organized the solemn ceremony at the martyr’s commemorative site in Viet Xuyen Commune.
 
Earlier on April 26, the remains of Ly Tu Trong were found in Le Thi Rieng Park in District 10 of Ho Chi Minh City.

The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines carried the remains of Ly Tu Trong from Ho Chi Minh City to Vinh Airport in Nghe An Province on April 30. The remains were then taken to Viet Xuyen Commune.

From May 1 to 3, about 1,000 organizations nationwide burnt incense and offered flowers to commemorate Ly Tu Trong.

Ly Tu Trong was born in 1914 in Thach Ha District, Ha Tinh Province. He was also known as Le Van Trong or Le Huu Trong who was one of the youngest freedom fighters of Vietnam.

In February 1931, the French army arrested him while he was attending a ceremony to commemorate one year of the Yen Bai uprising in Saigon, the present day Ho Chi Minh City.

He was sentenced to death in November of the same year when he was only 17 years old.
