In addition to sending documents to banks, the state bank will also pay visits to banks especially banks having ATM in industrial parks and export processing zones in the city to keep an eye on operation of these machines.
Banks have to send their men to ATM location to handle incidents so that ATM can operate relentlessly to meet workers’ demand of withdrawing money.
Customers have had angry at the ATM chaos in these days when Tet holiday ( the Lunar New Year) is approaching.
Mr. Minh stressed during inspection, banks will get fine if they have been found not to put money into ATM or their ATMs don’t work as properly as they have to.
The central bank sent its document on January 31 asking commercial banks and credit institutions in the cities and its branches in provinces to ensure operation of ATMs
In spite of the central bank’s direction, many ATMs still broke down. For instance, staffs of Nguyen Tri Phuong hospital complained seven ATMs of Vietcombank and BIDV near the hospital in district 5 have operated properly lately; as a result, medical staffs couldn’t withdraw money for buying commodities for Tet preparation.
Somewhere in the city, many workers in Tan Binh Industrial Park said they couldn’t withdraw many on January 29 as ATMs in the district “ refused” to pay money or worked improperly. A long line of people waiting for their turn to withdraw money
Mr. Linh Tu in district 3 said he spent the whole morning of January 31 to travel from ATM in Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street to ATM in Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street of Dong A. both machines signed no money. He succeeded in withdrawing money when traveling to the third ATM in Cach mang Thang Tam Street.
Worse, Long Nguyen in District Thu Duc neither withdrew money from ATMs nor entered his banking account in January 29 and 30 to make online transaction. At last, after many efforts, on January 30, he was able to access his accounts online but it worked slowly; he felt unsecure to make transaction
According to banks, despite of their efforts to war against the improper operation of ATMs, strong demand of withdrawing money for Tet preparation especially one week before Tet holiday results in unavoidable breaking down of ATM.
