The Ho Chi Minh City customs agency has seized 36 wristwatches worth VND572 million (US$31,000), illegally imported into Vietnam.
Customs officials at HCMC’s San Nhat International Airport on March 2 discovered three passengers arriving on a flight from Hong Kong carrying the undeclared goods.
The watches were brought by Nguyen Van Tam, 42; Nguyen Van Tu, 46; and Nguyen Pham Nhut Thong, 22; all from HCMC.
Customs officers said the three individuals had attempted to hide the goods, with brand names like Omega, Rolex, Patek, Roamer and Rodania, in their pants’ pockets without declaring them.
The seized wristwatches have since been transferred to local police for further investigation.
