Athlete Truong Thanh Hang and her coach, Ho Thi Tu Tam topped 2007 Viet Nam’s Outstanding Athletes and Coaches Poll (VOACP).
The category of Viet Nam’s Outstanding Athletes nominees came with four athletes safe in top ten, including Truong Thanh Hang, Vu Thi Huong , Nguyen Dinh Cuong and Vu Van Huyen but the pathway leading to top position was a tough race between Hang and Huong.
Viewers also saw their fair play competition since the earlier last year since both of Hang and Huong achieved a lot of successes on their races, especially two golden rains in the 2007 Asian Games (AG) and the 24th Southeast Asian Games.
Hang had a good start in 2007AG with leading in the rush of gold with one gold medal in the Women’s 800m.
However, she only gained a draw in the 24th SEA Games when Huong soon kept with her. While Hang gained two gold medals in her Women’s 800m and 1,500m, whereas, Huong also achieved her two gold medals in her Women’s 100m and 200m.
The Viet Nam’s Outstanding Athletes was considered as the last stop of their competition in this year. Due to a yearlong golden result of three golds, Hang easily extended the loosing streak of her two-gold opponent, Huong to 1671/1502 and achieved the final victory, leaving Huong at the second position.
Their two athletic teammates, Nguyen Dinh Cuong and Vu Van Huyen, found their fourth and sixth position with 758 points and 540 points after the poll.
The other winners in top ten were Taekwondo fighter Nguyen Van Hung (825 points), swimmer Nguyen Huu Viet (713 points), badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh (335 points), shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh (275 points), Weightlifter Nguyen Thi Thiet (271 points), Gymnastics player Do Ngan Thuong (271 points)
The category of Viet Nam’s Outstanding Coaches met the Athletics again when its two coaches, Ho Thi Tu Tam and Duong Duc Thuy, stood at the top five nominees.
Mr. Tam, Main Coach of the Viet Nam’s Outstanding Athlete Truong Thanh Hang, triumph over the other nominees to stand high on the highest position, thanks to his contribution to all the victories of Hang.
Mr. Thuy also preserved his safety at the third position with 239 points. The three left coaches in top five were Karatedo Coach Le Cong (331 points), Taekwondo Coach Nguyen Dang Khanh (103 points) and Gymnastics Coach Truong Tuan Hien (101 points)
The 2007 Viet Nam Outstanding Athletes and Coaches Poll (VOACP) officially opened for voting on December 28, 2007, aiming at finding the most outstanding coaches and athletes in Viet Nam Sport.
