50,000 student volunteers from 322 wards in 24 districts participating in the 2011 Green Summer Campaign have successfully carried out many activities for the socio-economic development of the country.

The campaign running from July 17 to August 14 aims to promote patriotism among students, respond to 2011 Youth Year and Year for Children and encourage students to work actively towards the country’s socio-economic growth.
Nguyen Van Dua, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and Nguyen Van Ranh, chief of public relations of the city Party Committee and representatives of other agencies visited student volunteers in Vinh Chau district in the Mekong delta province of Soc Trang to motivate and encourage them.
More than 700 students from the University of Economics in Ho Chi Minh City volunteered for the 2011 Green Summer Campaign. They helped construct roads and nine charity houses for the disadvantaged worth VND25 million each (US$1,190). They also organized 53 classes for children, farming guidance classes for farmers and also planted 4,000 trees.
The delegation visited young overseas Vietnamese Student volunteers and the Vietnam Medical Association in Vinh Chau district in Soc Trang province. 350 residents have been given free treatment and medicines here. Furthermore, volunteers will plant 50,000 trees, build 100 friendship houses, grant 500 scholarships and present 50,000 scarves, books and study material to poor students.
Thirty-two volunteers from HCMC have left for the mountain villages in Laos to build friendship houses, distribute medicines, transfer technology and working towards solidarity in relations between Vietnam and Laos.
