According to the National Committee for Traffic Safety’s report, in August the country has seen 1,712 traffic accidents killing 654 people and injuring 1,591 other people.
Compared to the same period last year, the figure of traffic accidents, mortality and injured people all decreased. The number of traffic accidents and injured people dropped by 13 percent and 20 percent respectively yet the figure of mortality slight slumped by 5.6 percent.
Vietnam saw 14,622 traffic accidents happening in the first eight months of this year, with 5,821 people killed and 13,234 injured. Compared to the same period last year, the number of dead victims due to traffic accident just dropped 241 people or nearly 4 percent.
The National Committee for Traffic Safety (NCTS) also said that in August, police handled 349,693 traffic violations collecting over VND213 billion (US$ 9,469,984) and withdrawing 28,971 driver's licenses and seizing 46,000 vehicles of various kinds.
