The 5th European Literature Days is being held in Hanoi from May 7-10 by the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) and embassies in the capital.
Readers will have a chance to take part in readings, workshops, music performances, comic painting, exhibition, and short-film screenings.
Eight European countries, including Denmark, Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, Israel, Poland and Sweden will present works which have recently been published in Vietnamese, in collaboration with several major publishers.
This year, the focus of European Literature Days is the interplay between image and word, in comics and children’s books.
Accordingly, Sweden celebrates the freckled redhead Pippi Longstocking with a party in honor of her 70th birthday, featuring readings, painting and crafts.
In addition, there will be exchanges with international children’s book authors, such as Jasper Fforde, Jakob Martin Strid, Annette Köhn, Françoize Bouche, and Etgar Keret.
Literature Days will close at the Goethe Institute with the comic artist Reinhard Kleist doing live drawing and a concert featuring the music of legendary country singer Johnny Cash.
Many books are available at special prices during the event. There is also an exhibition of new books from Germany at the Goethe Institute in cooperation with the Frankfurt Book Fair.
