Deputy Head of the Medical Center in Dak Ha District in Kon Tum Province Dr. Nguyen Ho Dinh yesterday said that 34 people including 24 medical workers and 10 locals on the day gave the first-aid treatment and transported traffic accident victims to the nearby hospital.
Accordingly they are at risk of exposing to HIV and have been provided free consultation, screening tests, and ARV medicines.
The accident killed four victims, one female, who was later discovered, is HIV-infected patient.
On the same day, People’s Committee in Dak Ha District handed certificates of merit to those locals who provided assistance to the victims
As per Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper’s article, the accident happened on June 30 along a section of the Ho Chi Minh Highway in Dak H’ring Commune, Dak Ha District, Kon Tum Province.
A 16-seater coach, operated by Van Thanh Transport Company, was traveling from Dak To to Kon Tum when it crashed another managed by the Manh Tien Transport Company running in the opposite direction.
The accidents claimed four lives and injured 12 others. Amongst dead people are 51 year old woman who had been infected with HIV before. However, medical workers and locals who provided first-aid treatment and transported them to infirmary did not know; accordingly, they are exposed to HIV.
