20,000 Toyota cars in VN recalled for airbag problem

Toyota in Vietnam has said that it started to recall 20,015 cars across the country from August 28 to check and replace the airbags produced by the Japanese firm Takata.

Of 20,015 cars, 18,138 are Vios cars made in Vietnam from January 5, 2009 to December 29, 2012 and 1,877 are Yaris models imported into the Southeast Asian nation from September 1, 2009 to August 31,2012.
The Japanese automobile maker said that it recalled the cards because the airbags were not manufactured to specifications; accordingly, they may deteriorate if it is exposed to temperature variations in humid climates over a long period of time.
In case, when accident happens, the airbag will operate , it may cause the inflators to explode and spray shrapnel into passengers.
Accordingly, Toyota Vietnam said it will start checking and replacing the airbags free of charge at all of its branches across the country.
