A national meeting to mark World Water Day 2011 was held in Phan Rang-Thap Cham City in the central province of Ninh Thuan on March 22, aiming to raise awareness of our scarce water resources.
The meeting was held jointly by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the People’s Committee of Ninh Thuan Province.
Speaking at the meeting, Nguyen Thai Lai, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment said that over-exploiting of water resources, the rapid growth of urbanization and lack of awareness of our water resources is fast exhausting our water base, especially in urban areas.
After the meeting, nearly 3,000 people walked in a procession on the streets to call on people to conserve water as well as protect this natural resource as human life depended on water.
World Water Day 2011 focuses international attention on the impact on urban water systems by rapid urban population growth, industrialisation and uncertainties caused by climate change, conflicts and natural disasters.
